Well yesterday was my first official solo workout sans Team in Training. Coach Neal was all fired up and ready to go. I think it is hilarious how excited he is about me choosing to participate in this event. We started things off slow to warm up and according to my schedule we were supposed to do two miles meaning two minutes running, one minute walking. Leave it up to my husband to get out my heart rate monitor and set the intervals for us. After every interval you hear a dreadful beep meaning one minute of walking is up and now you must run (secretly I wanted to break the watch in a million little pieces, but kept a smile on for Neal). The next beep signals you now get to walk after running two minutes which was like music to my ears. I have to give it up to Neal because he was a great coach and he has some pretty great motivational techiniques i.e. "don't worry babe in 5 months you will be ready to walk on the beach in your brand new swimsuit" (right...that's a dream that quickly died at the age of like 2). I think he was trying to get me excited about training when all I could think during the run is, "how can I ever actually do this and what the h@!& was I thinking. " Poor Neal would try to talk to me while running and he would just get a scowl back from me that said, "stop talking can't you see I am about to roll over dead...and talking isn't going to help the situation?" We both went and got fitted for some new running shoes on Monday night and stupid me thought they were going to somehow make me a trained athlete over night allowing me to run like the wind like Forest Gump..Well I was wrong they hurt because my feet are not actually used to a real, fit for your foot kind of shoe. I am more of a Payless girl and less of a "running shoe girl". I am told however after two weeks I will never want to wear another pair of shoes. My how I wish two weeks were up because I am beginning to think I went through a big expense and embarassment of being a girl my size walking in to a running shoe asking for help to get fit for a shoe because I plan to run a marathon. Knowing full well the sales girl is looking at me and thinking to herself...right...whatever makes you feel better. I must add however that she was genuinely nice and concerned about my comfort. So thank you Sequoia Running Company!
So needless to say we finished our two miles and I was faithful to every interval and it felt pretty good to be done. On to day two of solo training today which includes cross training and another two miles. Pray for some mental clarity on the trail...Lord knows I am going to need it.
