13 week expected milestones:
Your baby might actually be starting to sleep longer if not through the night at this point! His body is finally figuring out the whole day and night issue, and he is able to eat and store more in the evenings to get him through the night without waking up for several meals.
Your infant is becoming stronger and stronger each week! You have probably noticed that she holds her head up longer during tummy time and may even be able to hold some weight in her legs when you hold her in a supported standing position. Balancing however, is months away! She is probably laughing out loud when you play with her or bring her favorite toy to her.
Speaking of her favorite toy, by week 13, she may be batting at her toys when they come into her field of vision, or she may even be picking up that toy for herself! Not only is she picking that toy up, she is probably inspecting it thoroughly, with her eyes and her mouth!
Teething
It may surprise you to know that teething can start long before you can see any teeth trying to poke their way out of your baby’s gums. So even though you may not see her first tooth until she is 6 months old, she may be feeling it now. Some babies glide through teething without a tear, but others experience pain, dribbling and red cheeks.
• Recognizes your face and scent
• Holds head steady
• Visually tracks moving objects • Squeals, gurgles, coos
• Blows bubbles
• Recognizes your voice
Considered advanced skills:
• Does mini-pushup • Rolls over, from tummy to back
• Turns toward loud sounds
• Can bring hands together, bats at toys
Where you are at:
You have been sleeping through the night since you were exactly six weeks old. Thank goodness. Altough this week you have been waking up around 4:30am but you play in your bassinet and drift back to sleep until about 6 when you start to really get upset because you are hungry.
You are super strong and lifting your head like crazy when put on your tummy. When we carry you on our arms you are constantly looking around and I think you get frustrated because you just want to get up and go. You have also rolled over twice to your back and you are scooting a lot. I am really going to have to start watching you. You also kick your legs like crazy and you arch your back and bend your knees and you look so funny. You are so adorable.
You are definitely teething and let's just say Mommy is really excited about it because you seem to be in a lot of discomfort and all my shirts are full of drool which I secretely love but not too sure how the rest of the world feels about it. You haven't really found a toy that comforts you but you love Mommy and Daddy's fingers and your own fist. Your poor knuckles will be so red at times too!
You definitely are recognizing Mommy and Daddy for sure and will follow us in a room when you are being held by someone else. Most of the time only Mommy can soothe you but Daddy is getting pretty good too! You have eyes just for your Daddy a lot of the time too. I love how you look at him and giggle a little.
You hold your head steady and have for some time. You visually track ojbects as well and you love when Mommy reads you books especially when they have really bright colors. You have also been blowing bubbles for a while which is contributing to your constant slobber. You recognize our voice which goes along with you following us in a room.
You have begun to lift yourself up pretty well when you are on your tummy. I think you still need another week to be a pro. You have rolled over twice but this has not been consistent.
You definitely turn toward loud sounds and you have been putting your hands together for a while. You grasp things very tightly and grab for things as well i.e. your Mommy's hair.
I love you Madisen and I am so proud of how well you are progressing and keeping up with all of the expected milestones. You are such a champ...I think all those years of prenatal vitamins and all the extra stuff Dr. Swanson had me on has really made you super strong.
These have been the best 13 weeks of my life and I am so blessed to call you my very own daughter.
